Axis Deer (Axis axis)
The axis Deer (also known as spotted deer or Chital deer) commonly inhabits wooded regions of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, in small numbers in Pakistan and northeast China. They live in dense forest and open grasslands. The male is known as a buck, the female as a doe, and the young a fawn. Their coat is pinkish fawn, marked with white spots and its under parts are also white. Its antlers, which it sheds annually, are usually three-pronged and curve in a lyre shape and may extend to 75 cm (2.5 ft).
